NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) – How much do you value a good night’s sleep? One local business owner does a lot. She took her own struggles with an embarrassing medical condition and turned it into a business idea.
Alli Truttmann is the founder and CEO of Wicked Sheets. Truttmann suffers from Hyperhidrosis, which basically means she sweats a lot.
“There were thousands almost millions of people like me,” said Truttmann. “I was waking up wet, it was pooling basically on my sheets which is so not attractive.”
After several uncomfortable nights, Truttmann came up with an idea. It’s an idea that is heating up while keeping her customers cool. Wicked Sheets makes bed sheets and other products that help people with night sweats by wicking away sweat from their body.
“It’s a play on words,” said Truttmann. “Wicking fabric wicks away the moisture. Same technology as Under Armour, Nike Dry Fit, Adidas Climate Cool, and apply it to the bedroom.”
Truttmann says the sheets are ideal for people suffering from excessive sweating from menopause, post-traumatic stress disorder, and people who are undergoing cancer treatment. She even has a product line out for children. And Children and their families are where her heart is.
“I’ve always had this human services type of business model in my head if you will,” said Truttmann.
With her psychology degree from Bellarmine University, she wants to give back and hire parents who have children with disabilities at her fulfillment center in New Albany in 2015.
“What I know about kids with autism is that they need their space, alone time, and low stimulation,” said Truttmann. “There is this niche of folks that have to stay at home because they can’t find childcare to take care of their kids special needs.”
Truttmann says the best way to be successful is to give back and she figures she can help everyone behind the seams.
“If we have a product that is for profit, we might be able to do some things on the other side that almost has a non-profit feel to it,” said Truttmann.
Truttmann says she takes pride that her products are American made. They are manufactured in Cincinnati, her fulfillment center is in New Albany.
