There is a right way to put on your top sheet!

Calling all top sheet loyalists - there is a right way to put on the top sheet!

It has long been hotly debated whether there is a right or wrong way to put on a top sheet. Ok, maybe “long” is an overstatement. Just a few weeks ago, this article came out in USA Today saying that the Millennial generation is not only doing away with chain restaurants and long division, but they’re also haters of the top sheet.

At Wicked Sheets we have taken an agnostic position on this matter -- though one GQ called this no-sheet phenomenon "disgusting," another said top-sheets are a thing of the past! That’s why we sell sets that include a fitted sheet, top (or flat) sheet, and 2 pillow cases, as well as all pieces individually. And let me tell you, the a la carte order has been very popular since that article came out.

So, let’s take a little bit of a deeper dive and uncover (so punny!) the right way to put on a top sheet.

Repeat after me, “Finished Side Down for a Fashionable Flip Over”.

Yes, you read that correctly. The finished side of the top sheet, which is the silky side of Wicked Sheets, should touch your body. That way you get both the silkiness of the sheet touching your skin at night AND the fashionable fold over when you make your bed in the morning. Get yours today!

Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Place the hem side of the top sheet at the head of the bed.
  2. Make sure that the seams are up, or the silky side is bed down (depending on your sheet brand).
  3. Pull your comforter, coverlet, or quilt up to meet and cover the top sheet evenly.
  4. Fold back the fitted sheet and comforter about 12-16” or enough so that they are not hidden underneath your pillows.
  5. Tell all your friends that you have the discovered the lost art of correctly putting on a top sheet!
  6. Tell all your Millennial friends that Wicked Sheets sells all sheet pieces individually so that they can buy just a fitted sheet and how ever many pillow cases their little heart’s desire!

  • Likin this ‘how to make the bed’ article. Not so sure about “Perla’s: wrong.. hem goes at bottom”. You’d never see it would you? But the thing I can’t get comfortable with is, why is top sheet printed on the 4” top hem, at all?

  • Perla, all 4 sides of a sheet has a hem. What they’re saying, though they could do it more clearly, is that, when you first place the flat sheet over the fitted sheet, the ‘underside’ of the top hem is facing up. This is so that when you fold back the top sheet and comforter, the ‘pretty’ side of the top hem is then facing outward.

  • How you tell people to place the sheet is wrong. Everyone knows the the hem of any garment, whether skirt, pants, shirt or blouse, goes at the bottom. The same goes for bed sheets. The hem goes at the foot of the bed to give it a polished look specially if the hem is embroidered.
