What are Cooling Sheets made of?

One of the top questions we get at Wicked Sheets is about the materials from which our bedding is made. How are your cooling sheets made? What are they made of? Does the effectiveness wear off when you wash them? Do they have in-depth washing requirements?

Thankfully, the answers to these common questions are simple.

Our Wicked-Cool™ moisture-wicking + cooling bed sheets and pillowcases are made of a silk-weight poly-nylon fiber blend, which remains 2 to 3 degrees cooler to the touch while providing the same moisture-wicking capability of our wicking sheets. This innovative fabric also contains a special UV-cut fiber component that stops the absorption of heat from light sources.

Once people hear the materials that go in our bedding, their next questions are often about polyester. "It's an old fabric!" "It's scratchy!" "My Mom's old suits were polyester!" "How can that be a good bedding material?"

While Polyester was invented in 1941 by a group of British scientists, it's been nearly 80 years since the first bolts were made and it’s been further refined and is as safe as ever!

At Wicked Sheets, we know the value of these man-made fibers. Polyester is vital to the efficacy of our cooling sheets.

  • Polyester is better for the environment, requiring much less energy to clean when soiled than cotton — much less hot water, lower drying temperatures, and an overall more efficient cleaning and manufacturing process than cotton. Furthermore, polyester is fully recyclable — and current polyester fibers can even be remade into other products.
  • It’s better suited for people with asthma and allergies. In fact, our original moisture-wicking fabrics are the world’s first performance knit bedding to be certified by the AAFA as being better bedding for people with asthma and allergies than traditional fabrics.
  • Our antimicrobial and pH balancing fibers are easier to clean and last longer — Wicked Sheets CEO Alli is still sleeping on the same set she’s been snoozing on for the last ten years!
  • Check out this blog to learn more about the safety of polyester.

Now that you understand what cooling sheets are made of, you might be asking, "How do Wicked Sheets moisture-wicking and cooling bed sheets work?" and "How easy are they to care for once I have them?". These answers are as simple as 1-2-3.

Sleep, sweat, rinse and repeat in cooling sheets

Sweat: As you sweat at night, Wicked Sheets wick the moisture away and pulls the sweat into the dry surface areas of the bed essentially evaporating as it moves away from underneath your body. Void of a "wet spot" you are kept cool AND dry.

Sleep: It's easy to fall asleep and stay asleep when your skin hits the cool, silky softness of Wicked Sheets. Let your mind rest and your anxiety subside about waking up to wet bedding - Wicked Sheets do the work so that you don't have to.

Rinse: Once a week, wash your bedding in cool water with normal detergent and dry on a low setting. The only two things to remember: no fabric softener (it can clog the wicking pores!) and no dryer sheets.

Repeat: With proper care, our Wicked Sheets wicking and cooling components will last you years. The effects of our cooling sheets are engineered right into the fabric and won't fade over time. If you should experience a sewing error over time, just reach out to the team at Wicked Sheets and they'll see what they can do to help. We know that better sleep is an investment worth making!

Sleep well, sleep wicked.
