Better Sleep Month, Night Sweats, and Hot Flashes
Night Sweats, Hot Flashes, & You.
Although May is ending, don’t let all the work you’ve done to maximize your rest go to waste. We’ve covered the importance of rest for all ages, of making your bedroom a relaxing haven, and we end May with a discussion of the impact of night sweats and hot flashes on sleepers everywhere.
Worldwide, more than 367 million people –5% of the global population– suffer from hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating. That number doesn’t include those who suffer from night sweats as a result of the side effects of medicines, cancer treatments, and medical issues, meaning hundreds of millions of people are waking nightly from damp bedding.
On our website, we offer visitors a Sleep Prescription where they answer questions related to sleep habits. To date, we’ve analyzed the data of more than a thousand entries to notice trends that exist for the sweatiest of sleepers. Where do you fall? More than 80% of respondents said they overheated at night and more than 32% said they were also on medication that could’ve caused sweating. (However, many medications cause night sweats – some you don’t even think about! Check out our blogs here and here on medications.)
While our entries were unsurprisingly overwhelmingly completed by females, we were surprised to learn the percentage of those with night sweats in the 21-30 year old age range were as high as those in the 35-50 year old range. It shows that night sweats and hot flashes (and Wicked Sheets!) are not just for those of a menopausal age. Our moisture-wicking + cooling bedding is for all.
As always, sleep well, sleep wicked.
