Autumn Decorating Tips for Guys

The last few days are the first mornings that have actually begin to feel like fall. I've needed a robe over PJs while taking the dog out, the dew takes a little longer than normal to burn off and there's that distinct smell that only comes once a year when the heat kicks back on after having being off since the year prior. We all know Wicked Sheets for our bedding. But, as we also all know, sleep is all encompassing. It's your sleep consistency, it's more than sheets alone - it's blankets and your mattress - but, it's also how the room looks and feels to you. I work for Wicked Sheets with marketing and public relations and I'm not ashamed to say I'm someone who loves updating the look of their bedroom with the seasons. So, with cooler temperatures comes easy autumn decorating tips for guys.

Though I keep Wicked Sheets on the bed year-round to stay cool and dry, it's easy to keep the overall look of your bedroom updated throughout the year. Places like Homegoods, TJ Maxx and even Wayfair are one-stop-shops for duvets, blankets, pillows and more. One of the most interesting parts of people who sweat at night, is it's usually this time of year when any skeptics find Wicked Sheets. In the summer months, it makes sense to many to sweat at night. However, as it gets colder, when people still sweat they begin to wonder why.

After all, at an average of around 8 hours nightly, 1/3 of our lives are spent sleeping. Why wouldn't you want to ensure you created the most relaxing, sleep-conducive atmosphere possible?

Autumn Decorating Tips for Guys

  • Duvets, decorative pillows and blankets are key. For the materials touching your body, we always say avoid the three Fs - fleece, fur and feathers. If you tend to overheat at night, don't have a fleece blanket, feather duvet or faux-fur throws. However, a faux-fur pillow or fleece throw in a darker color and some accent pillows can go a long way to making your space feel cozy and relaxing.
  • Candles set the mood and can relax you. Feng Shui is important to keeping your senses in check. While guys may not think about the importance of a candle, pick up one that appeals to you. That might be a spiced candle, an evergreen, woody candle or even one that smells like fresh laundry. Too many guys ignore the subtle (or not so subtle!) benefit a candle can have in the bedroom.
  • Reevaluate your lighting. Spring and summer are times for brighter lights,  but fall is a great time to invest in dimmer bulbs. No matter where you are in the world, fall and winter are notorious for gray days fewer daylight hours. Embrace that in the evening. Rather than turning on a bunch of harsh, bright white lights, try softer bulbs. They may just help you get to sleep faster.
As always, sleep well, sleep wicked and try some of these tips to make your bedroom feel like fall and fall asleep after.
