Converting US Mattress Sizes to International Sizes

Here’s a little history lesson for you: Did you know that the word “mattress” is derived from the Arabic word “matrah”? Matrah translates into “something thrown down” or “a place where something is thrown down”.

We can thank the Europeans for adapting the Arabic practice of sleeping on cushions on the floor during the Crusades for how far the mattress has come today. They would have never dreamed (pun intended) of memory foams, gels, cooling, or heating options back then, but look at us now!

Alright, enough history for you, let’s get to the meat of this blog! As our international sales increase, so do the amount of questions we get regarding bed sizes. So I thought I would just share the guide that I use to convert international bed sizes to our US bed sizes and sheet options.

Keep in mind, we are a company who proudly handcrafts American sheet sets, but we do have the ability to customize sizes to fit your bed perfectly. Turnaround time may be anywhere from2-3 weeks, but it can be done. Just let us know!

So here is a chart showing every mattress size known to man:
